Makes and models we could tie to this engine family through the vehicle maker's own literature and/or NHTSA recall filings. "Years documented" means the years those sources cover. It isn't a complete production span, and not every vehicle of that model has this engine.
Tiffin describes it as a joint Tiffin-Cummins development for the Breeze chassis. The Cummins recall names Breeze motorhomes but gives no model years.
See every family side by side on the By vehicle page.
04Emissions eras (EGR, DPF, SCR)
Era dates are Cummins' on-highway emissions steps in North America. A given truck or bus can carry an engine built to the previous standard for a while after a change, so go by the engine dataplate, not just the model year.
2016–2019
Built from the start with a diesel particulate filter and SCR (diesel exhaust fluid). There was no pre-DPF version of this engine in North America.[1,4]

CP4 fuel pump lawsuit (allegations, not findings)
Applies to 2016–2019 Nissan Titan XD diesel
A class action filed in March 2023 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee claims the Bosch CP4 high-pressure fuel pump on these trucks can wear internally and send metal debris through the fuel system, leading to sudden engine failure and expensive repairs. Cummins is named as a defendant alongside Nissan.
These are claims made by plaintiffs. We found no NHTSA safety recall for the fuel pump on the Titan XD. If you own one, keep fuel-system service records and check the case page for updates.

Any NHTSA recall or manufacturer notice added after our October 2026 review.
The engine ran in pickups for only four model years and in small numbers in buses and motorhomes. We found far less independent long-term reliability reporting than for the B-series, so we don't list failure patterns we can't back up. The recalls below are the documented safety issues.
1. Search the vehicle. Enter the 17-character VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. That finds recalls filed by the vehicle maker (the truck, bus or chassis builder), such as Freightliner, Blue Bird or Nissan.[17]
2. Search the engine. Recalls Cummins files against its engines are equipment recalls. Their campaign numbers contain an "E" (for example 18E-081) and they follow the engine serial number (ESN), so they may not show up in a VIN search. On the same NHTSA page, search equipment/manufacturer for Cummins, or open a campaign number directly, then compare its build dates and part numbers with your engine. For a definite answer, give the ESN from the engine dataplate to a Cummins-authorized service location.[12,18]
3. Bulletins. TSBs for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles appear on NHTSA as manufacturer communications when the maker files them; we don't copy their text. Year/make/model shortcuts: 2016 Nissan Titan2019 Nissan Titan
Safety recalls we verified on NHTSA
Nissan files Titan XD recalls under the model name "TITAN" in NHTSA's data (searching "TITAN XD" returns nothing), so use the VIN search. The two "E" campaigns were filed by Cummins against the engine itself. Each one was confirmed in NHTSA's campaign records on 2026-10-19; summaries are in our own words. It's not a complete list for any vehicle.
2016 Nissan Titan XD diesel built Aug 7, 2015 - Sep 1, 2016 · Fuel tank breather tube
A temporary cap on the fuel tank breather tube may not have been removed at the plant, which could make the fuel gauge read wrong and let the truck run out of fuel. Dealers inspect the breather tube and replace the tank, sending unit or tube as needed.[13]

ISV5.0 engines with certain air compressors · Air compressor belt
The air compressor belt could slip, cutting compressor output and with it air-brake performance. The fix moves the refrigerant compressor to a new low-mount layout.[15]
Engine recall (filed by Cummins) · about 381 units
2017–2019 Blue Bird Vision school buses with ISV5.0 · Air compressor belt
Bus-maker counterpart to 18E-112: a slipping compressor belt could reduce air output enough for the parking brake to apply on its own. Dealers fit a shorter belt.[16]
Vehicle recall (filed by Blue Bird Body Company) · about 28 units
